Coupe is a private app for two people. What you put in it is there so the two of you can use it - not to profile you, advertise to you or sell. This page says exactly what we store, why, and what you can do about it.
What we store
- Your account: email address, name, profile photo, birthday and the dates you choose to keep (like an anniversary). If you sign in with Apple, Apple tells us your email (or a private relay address) and name.
- What the two of you share: messages, photos, videos, voice notes, journal entries, calendar events, lists, chores, meals, trips, documents, gift ideas, memories, daily question answers and mood check-ins.
- Device details needed to reach you: push notification tokens for your phone or browser, and your time zone so reminders arrive at a sensible local time.
- A daily “opened the app” mark: one record per person per day that you opened Coupe, used only to count how many couples are actively using it. There is no third-party analytics and no tracking across other apps or websites.
Encryption
Messages, journal entries, calendar details, documents and most other shared content are encrypted before they are stored. The keys can be derived by Coupe’s server, so this is encryption at rest, not end-to-end encryption: it protects your content in storage and backups, but we do not claim the server could never read it. We only access content to run the features you use, or if the law requires it.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of providers to run Coupe. None of them may use your data for their own purposes.
- Supabase - database, sign-in, file storage and background jobs, hosted in the EU (Ireland).
- Vercel - hosts the web app.
- Apple - push notifications, Sign in with Apple and, if you turn it on, Apple Intelligence, which runs on your phone and sends nothing to us.
- Your browser’s push service - delivers web notifications if you allow them.
- Google, Microsoft or iCloud calendars - only if you connect one, to read the calendar you choose.
- Link previews - when a message contains a link, our server fetches that page to show a preview, and your phone fetches the site’s icon from Google’s favicon service.
Your partner
Content you share in Coupe is visible to your partner - that is the point of it. A few things stay yours alone, such as private gift notes. If one of you deletes their account, the other is told.
Your choices
- Export: download everything the two of you have stored, including decrypted files, from Profile in the Coupe web app.
- Delete: Settings → Delete Account permanently removes your account and your data from our database and storage. Backups age out on the provider’s schedule.
- Notifications: choose which notifications you get, and set quiet hours, in Settings.
- Disappearing messages: messages can be set to delete themselves after a set time.
Depending on where you live (for example under UK or EU data protection law), you also have the right to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to object to how it is used.
Age
Coupe is for adults: you need to be 18 or over to use it. On iPhone we ask iOS for your age range (Apple’s Declared Age Range). Apple keeps your birthday and any ID check; Coupe only learns whether you are 18 or over, and keeps that answer on your device.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
